Un altísimo nivel reflejado en los puntajes fue la característica principal del día final del Billabong Pro Jr San Bartolo, fecha que inicia las clasificatorias sudamericanas para el Mundial Pro Junior de la World Surf League, máximo ente que rige el deporte del surf profesionalmente.
En la rama masculina, el peruano Alonso Correa venía tras desplegar todo su potencial y tener actuaciones sobresalientes en las rondas previas. Debía hacer frente al brasilero Mateus Herdy, quien corrió excepcionalmente sumando 17.65. Alonso, pese a tener buenas olas, no pudo superar el alto puntaje de Herdy y su 13.50 acumulado no fue suficiente. Pese a ello, Correa ocupó el tercer lugar y suma importantes puntos para el ranking.
En la otra llave en duelo carioca, Weslley Dantas derrotó 16.15 a 14.05 a Kim Marcondes, clasificando así a la final. La serie definitoria tuvo olas sobre los ocho puntos y la victoria fue para Dantas, con un ajustado marcador de 17.9 contra los 17.45 de su connacional Herdy.
Por su parte, en la llave femenina, la primera semifinal tuvo un duelo cerrado entre la local María Fernanda Reyes y la argentina Josefina Ane. La clasificación fue para la gaucha con un apretado 12.15 a 11.25.
En la segunda llave, la suerte tampoco estuvo de lado de la otra representante peruana. Leilani Aguirre tras una desconcentración marcó una interferencia por lo que fue sancionada. Con esa limitación, era difícil sumar un puntaje que la lleve a la final. La ganadora de esa serie fue la brasilera Taina Hinckel, que se había ganado con su propio esfuerzo la condición de favorita. Taina marcó 14.75 contra los 5.75 de Leilani.
La final femenina también estuvo muy luchada desde el inicio. Taina de tan sólo doce años de edad demostraba todo su potencial, que la había llevado a tener el puntaje más alto del torneo el día anterior. Hinckel sumó 13.50 superando a la argentina Ane con un punto de diferencia.
Las peruanas Reyes y Aguirre ocuparon finalmente el tercer lugar del podio y se llevan una buena cosecha de puntos para el ranking sudamericano júnior.
El Billabong Pro Jr San Bartolo fue organizado por Entertainment Producciones, que reafirma una vez más su compromiso y apoyo al deporte desde hace más de diez años, incentivando y respaldando la formación de nuevos y futuros talentos que representarán al Perú de la mejor forma a nivel internacional.
