Each week, the teams compete against each other in a Beach Battle which tests fundamental ocean skills. But before the fun and games can begin, teams need to be assigned, and what better way to lock them in than a game of spin the bottle.
Though this isn't the game you may have played in a friend's basement or by the fireside at a beach party -- it's strictly business. Contestants sit around the bottle and take it in turns to spin. The person the bottle lands on picks which member of the opposite sex they want as their teammate.
The composition of these teams will have a big impact on the outcomes of upcoming Beach Battles and Wave Challenges -- they know they need to choose wisely.
And while Beach Battles and Wave Challenges will come down to grit, skill and determination, spin the bottle involves a lot of luck -- these guys have already had a chance to size each other up, and just like in a game of middle school softball, if someone is picked first, it also means someone is chosen last.
The contestants with the early picks have the advantage of choosing who they believe is the strongest teammate, though as we'll see as the show progresses, sometimes it's the competitors you least expect who rise to the occasion.
