Invitee Kohl Christensen (HAW) (centre) is recognized for going deep and taking off at "Eddie's spot," a deep boil well inside of where most surfers enter the ride. His fearless commitment to the takeoff was captured during the event of 2009: a breath-taking air-drop that saw him separated from his board in what would ultimately become a moment frozen in time as images of it criss-crossed the globe. Invitee and 2X ASP World Champion Tom Carroll was forced to withdraw from the Eddie in 2009 after seriously breaking his leg during warm-up the day prior. Tommy made a heavy drop at the Bay during practice, only to be compressed by a mountain of whitewater. The load snapped his leg above his ankle. Tom is ready to again when the Bay calls the day.
