PLAYA DE PANTIN, Galicia - Spain (Friday, May 3, 2013) - In its third decade of existence, the Pantin Classic Galicia Pro returns this summer to the beautiful locale of Pantin. Organizers have now confirmed that Pantin will again host an ASP Europe 6-Star Women and 3-Star Men's event.
Rob Gunning, ASP Europe's Tour Manager acknowledges the importance of such a classic event on the European summer calendar. "The Pantin Classic Galicia Pro in its 26th year is forming an ever increasing importance on the world surfing stage," Gunning stated. "This year the women's 6-Star will be the final qualifying event for the 2013 season which will include a huge list of national and international female surfers looking for qualification to the elite ASP women's World Tour."
Come Pantin, some of the best female surfers will do battle for the coveted remaining spots on the Elite ASP Top 17. Past winners include World Championship Tour surfers Courtney Conlogue (USA) and Sage Erickson (USA) but this little stretch of beachbreak has also seen the likes of Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), Laura Enever (AUS) and current World Number 2 Tyler Wright (AUS) perform before accessing the WCT.
Pantin also plays a major role in the reconnaissance for new talents among the European Men as well as confirm the superiority of established long-time competitors like last year's event saw Marlon Lipke (PRT) come out on top of a hungry field of up-and-comers.
"The men's 3-Star event is a building block for surfers looking to gain valuable rankings points as well as competitive experience leading into the second half of the 2013 season,' Gunning continued. "La playa de Pantin has in the past delivered some great conditions for surfing and I am looking forward to seeing all the action unfold again this August at the Pantin Classic Galicia Pro."
The brilliant landscapes of the Playa de Pantin are assured to once again see thousands of surf aficionados come out and enjoy days of intense action from leading International and European athletes. With an extended waiting period starting on the Monday for the Men, and Tuesday for the Women, surf fans are guaranteed the action will benefit from optimal surf conditions.
The Pantin Classic Galicia Pro is made possible with the support of the following event partners: Concello de Ferrol, Concello de Valdoviño, Concello de Cedeira, Xunta de Galicia, Deporte Galego, Diputación de A Coruña.Intermax, Nilox, Café Delta, Garnier, Carris hoteles, Vazva, Federacion Galega de Surf e bodyboard.
