To the Nines: Medina's Best Waves of 2014

Medina's next event win was at the Fiji Pro. He tallied an excellent 17.50 heat total to defeat Kolohe Andino (USA) in the Semifinals, backing up this 9.07 with an 8.43.

Medina scored a near-perfect 9.87 in the Fiji Final against Nat Young (USA) to win the event.

When he's on, Medina strikes early. He earned a 9.43 on his opening ride in Round 3 at the J-Bay Open in July.

Medina locked in his second nine-pointer at Supertubes -- a 9.40 -- in the J-Bay Quarterfinals, but couldn't catch up to Owen Wright (AUS).

When he won the Billabong Pro Tahiti, Medina broke the three-way tie for 2014 event titles among himself, Mick Fanning (AUS) and Michel Bourez (PYF). His domination at Teahupo'o included eight nine-pointers, beginning with this 9.77 in Round 3.

Round 3 of the 2014 event in Tahiti was one of the heaviest in recent history. During the faceoff against Nathan Hedge (AUS), Medina scored two nine-point rides. This is his second, a 9.03

In a high-scoring set of Quarterfinals, Medina charged for a 9.57, ousting Kolohe Andino (USA).

With conditions still pumping at Teahupo'o, Medina opened his Semifinals scoreline with a 9.67 on his first takeoff.

The remaining competitors in Tahiti were on high alert when Medina scored another nine-point ride -- a 9.00 -- on his second wave.

With back-to-back nines in the Semifinals, Medina charged into the Final heat full of confidence despite facing 11-time World Champ Kelly Slater (USA). Again, he was quick to strike, scoring a 9.07 on his second wave.

Medina had no qualms about dropping into the daunting Tahitian bombs and grabbed another nine-pointer -- a 9.43 -- on his next ride.

Amped on his performance, Medina locked in the victory at Tahiti with a 9.53.

After making the trip from French Polynesia to the shores of California, Medina earned a 9.63 in Round 4 of the Hurley Pro at Trestles to advance directly into the Quarterfinals.

Medina arrived in Europe with his Title dreams closer than ever. He scored a 9.00 on his opening Round 4 ride at the Quiksilver Pro France. While he wouldn't go on to win the event, he'll land at the final event of the year, the Billabong Pipe Masters closer than ever to a World Championship.
