Max Weston and Malia Ilagan Claim Victory at SumUp Noosa Longboard Pro
WSL
NOOSA HEADS, Queensland / Australia (Saturday, March 22, 2025) - The SumUp Noosa Longboard Pro, the World Surf League division of the prestigious Noosa Festival of Surfing, wrapped up today in clean conditions at Noosa Beach. Malia Ilagan (USA) from Ventura, California and Max Weston (AUS) from Sydney's Northern Beaches were the winners, both claiming victory in hard-fought Finals.
Malia Ilagan (USA) won the Final over three of Australia's best longboarders, Kirra Molnar (AUS), Tully White (AUS) and Emma Perrier (AUS), who finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th, respectively. Ilagan's clean noserides and finishing floaters saw her take the top honours at her second WSL Longboard QS in a row, also winning the Surfing For Hope Longboard Classic at Pismo Beach, California, in November last year.
"I am in disbelief," said Ilagan. "I didn't know that I had won; last I heard, I was in fourth, so I just kept surfing, so to come in and be told that I have won - I am really stoked. I have been watching all of the others ripping over the past few days, and I don't think I have been surfing my best, so it feels great to bring my best surfing in the Final."
Max Weston (AUS) has claimed back-to-back WSL event wins in Noosa, having won the event last time it ran in 2023. Weston hung on to overcome an in-form Kai Ellice-Flint (AUS) with just 0.40 points separating the pair at the end of the Final. Both Ellice-Flint and Weston displayed an excellent combination of on-the-rail surfing and time on the nose to take the top two spots, while Jack Tyro (AUS) and Dylan Macleod (RSA) finished the Final in third and fourth, respectively.
"It feels really good to get this win!" Weston said. "I seem to be able to get into a rhythm at this event. I wanted to return to the WSL Longboard Tour, and I am stoked that this win has got me there. I live in Melbourne now and have been surfing Bells a lot, so being able to surf at that event and be on tour is what has been driving me. I have been riding Kai's (Ellis-Flint) boards, so it was great to have a Final with him. I think he's making the best boards in the world right now, and he's a great friend."
Today's win qualifies Weston for the 2025 WSL Longboard Tour, which will kick off at Huntington Beach this July.
Kirra Molnar (AUS) has also Qualified for the 2025 WSL Longboard Tour with her runner-up finish at the SumUp Noosa Longboard Pro.
The 2025 SumUp Noosa Longboard Pro, as part of the Noosa Festival of Surfing, ran at Noosa Heads Queensland from March 20 - 21, 2025. For more information, please visit WorldSurfLeague.com.
