PLAYA DA FRAGATA, Ferrol, Galicia / Spain (Friday, June 7, 2024) - The GADIS Longboard Festival Ferrol, final stop on the 2023/24 World Surf League (WSL) European Longboard Qualifying Series (LQS), is just one week away and is set to welcome Europe's best longboarders to a new exciting venue in wave-rich Galicia.
After the season opener in Cornwall last summer, surfers will have a second and final opportunity in Galicia to qualify for the WSL Longboard Tour and fight for a World Title. Only one spot is available in both the men and women divisions and competition will be tense as about sixty competitors are entering the fight in Galicia.
Edouard Delpero (FRA) and Alice Lemoigne (FRA), both in the field next week, currently lead the regional rankings and title race and will face tough competition as they try to stay in pole position in Ferrol. However they will surf a little more relaxed than their opponents as both have secured re-qualification for the Longboard Tour with big performances in Huntington Beach, Bells Beach and El Salvador last season. Ben Skinner (GBR) is the only other European competitor already re-qualified as he finished World No.3 last year.
For everyone else it's time to show the work done during the off season has paid dividends and fight for a chance to take their act globally. The fields will also be joined by event wildcards determined after a day of trials on June 13 which will spice up competition even a little bit more.
Three action-packed days will then follow in the fun peaks of playa da fragata opposite the Camping as Cazabas and there will be plenty of activities for the public attending this summer-launching event. Concerts, food trucks, a skate zone, workshops and free surfing lessons will set the perfect stage for a celebration of the most classic form of surfing, longboarding.
