Los Angeles, Calif., USA (Thursday, August 3, 2023) - Today, former World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT) competitor and World Title contender,Conner Coffin (USA), announced his retirement after his 4th-place finish at the Wallex US Open of Surfing presented by Pacifico. Coffin was honorably chaired up the beach to celebrate his career among family, friends, and some of the world's best surfers.
"I wish I was surfing my last heat at Pipe or J-Bay or something, but I think in a cool way I feel like it's pretty full circle for me here at Huntington," said Coffin. "And to do it here at home and get to have all my friends, my uncle and all these guys, and my fiance is super special."
Coffin qualified for the CT in 2015 after securing an equal 5th at the Vans World Cup at Sunset Beach, Oahu. Utilizing his signature style, he proceeded to earn a runner-up finish at the MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal during his rookie year on Tour.
"Getting to compete against Kelly (Slater), Mick (Fanning), Joel (Parkinson), and some of the surfers that I looked up to my whole life on the Tour," said Coffin. "It's interesting, I felt like I was in the middle of two crews in a way. I started with all those guys, they kind of phased out, and now there's Griffin (Colapinto) and Seth (Moniz) and all these guys who are coming up. And now Cole's (Houshmand) is coming on tour. So, yeah, it's been cool. Lot's changed since I got on tour I think, and it's just rad to see how high the level's gotten."
Coffin found his second-career CT Final at the Rip Curl Narrabeen Classic Presented by Corona in 2021. After a successful season, Coffin secured a spot in the WSL Final 5, allowing him to compete in the inaugural Rip Curl WSL Finals. He fell to 2022 World Champion Filipe Toledo (BRA) at the Rip Curl WSL Finals, finishing a commendable 4th in the World that year. The Santa Barbara, California, competitor's style remains highly praised and reminiscent of fellow Central Coast surfer, three-time WSL Champion, Tom Curren.
