16: Johnny Boy Gomes and Michael Ho make the All-Hawaiian Final as the Wildcards

There's really only one stop on tour where wildcards have a real chance to run the table against the world's best. And in 1997, two of Hawaii's most dominant surfers of all time proved the case for Pipeline. During a year when Kelly and the Momentum Generation were in peak form, two ‘80s titans Michael Ho (age 40 at the time) and Johnny-Boy Gomes mowed through the bracket and celebrated Gomes' first and only Masters win in perfect, 6-foot Pipe. As Gerry Lopez said of the all-Hawaiian final, "This is how it's supposed to be."
