What Do Kelly Slater, Tom Brady and LeBron James All Have In Common?
Jake Howard
The "Black and White" debut. The famous high-five at Pipe. The perfect heat at Teahupo'o. There have been no shortage of memorable moments in the long career of Kelly Slater, but what would the GOAT himself say is his most defining moment? You'll have to wait until July 10th to find out.
A new short-form series coming to Apple TV+ called "Greatness Code" taps into the stories of seven of the world's most iconic athletes, and Slater is among the illustrious list. The announcement of the series came via a post on Apple TV's YouTube channel. Offering a first-hand account of what they consider to be their defining moment, it appears to be a unique twist on the standard sports documentary.
The list of featured athletes is basically a stable of GOATS. It includes NBA great Lebron James, Super Bowl champ Tom Brady, U.S. women's soccer team co-captain Alex Morgan, world's fastest man Usain Bolt and snowboard master Shaun White, among others.
Not only telling stories in an innovative way, the series itself is a testament to athlete empowerment. It is co-produced by Uninterrupted, the company founded by James and Maverick Carter, and Religion of Sports, a sports content platform co-owned by Brady, Gotham Chopra, and Michael Strahan. Rather than letting traditional TV execs drive the production, "Greatness Code" has largely been developed by the people with the most vested interested -- the athletes themselves.
"Greatness Code" premieres on July 10 on Apple TV+.
