The Definitive Account Of The May Swells That Lit Up The Goldie
Ben Collins
During May, the Gold Coast in South East Queensland (and Far North NSW) was blessed with an almost non-stop run of swell which lit up the region's world-famous point breaks, as well as some of the lesser-known beach break gems on the periphery of the superbank madness.
This was a welcome relief from a troubled time in the world: locals were all in town, riding out the Covid-19 pandemic like the rest of the world, unable to travel far from home, and content to rekindle the flame for the local spots from which they're usually absent for much of the year.
Clips from these May swells have filtered out in recent weeks, but now, for your viewing pleasure, the definitive cut has been compiled thanks to a team effort by a crew of local filmmakers, such as Luke Workman, Malachi Urquhart and Gold Coast staple names like Simon "Shagga" Saffigna and Lachlan McKinnon.
As an added bonus, the soundtrack comes care of a host of local bands, is supported by the local business community and features some of the region's stars such as Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson, Stephanie Gilmore, Josh Kerr and even Occy, to the next generation of superstars like Sierra Kerr.
Enjoy HOME SCHOOL - MAY DAYS.
