Competition Off To A Flying Start at Nias Pro

It was a typically excellent start to the Nias Pro 2019 as Women's Round 1 opened the event in excellent 4 feet waves that grew through the day to 6 feet plus on dark. The QS3,000 also completed four heats of Round 1 with all surfers appreciating the excellent surf at this iconic point break.
Pacha Luque-Light was easily the opening day standout surfer finding two excellent 8.00 point plus rides for the highest days heat total of 16.24 and a dream run through to Round 2. The 18-year-old Gold Coast surfer is building experience on the Qualifying Series and is loving the idea of traveling the world and competing in perfect surf.
"This place is amazing, the waves are outstanding and we are extremely fortunate to surf an event here," Luque-Light said. "When I saw the event on the schedule I simply told myself it's a must-do event. I love the idea of traveling the QS around the world and competing in great waves and this certainly highlights that lifestyle! I can't wait for Round 2"
Amuro Tsusuki rattled the world rankings last week with a giant killer win in Spain and she brought her form and confidence from that event to Nias to post a big opening Round win while defending event champion Vittoria Farmer (AUS) comfortably won her opening round heat.
A magnificent Indonesian opening ceremony complimented the day's action and post-ceremony surfers reveled in their practice session with the excellent swell hitting the reef on dusk and setting the scene for what should be perfect Nias barrels tomorrow.
The action will start early to make the most of the likely pristine surf.
These Asian WSL surf events sound amazing and they are, but really it's just another day of incredible waves in Indonesia and the weekend's finals when President Joko Widodo is expected to visit the event, will be firing in bigger and better surf.
