Magic Board: Mayhem 5'9" x 18.50" x 2.18"
WSL
Carissa Moore saw herself on the podium after a repeat win over Tyler Wright at the 2014 Rip Curl Women's Pro Bells Beach.
A consistently-acknowledged component in elite surfers' programs is quality equipment and a positive relationship with their respective board builders. Moore's relationship with San Clemente-based icon Matt 'Mayhem' Biolos began in 2009 and the results since have been staggering: 11 elite CT wins (on Mayhem boards), two WSL Women's World Titles and countless endemic and mainstream accolades.
SHAPER: Matt 'Mayhem' Biolos
MODEL: Sub-Scorcher II
DIMENSIONS: 5'9" x 18.50" x 2.18"
FINS: FCS Thruster - PC5 Fins
TAIL: Squash
VOLUME: Trade Secret
MATERIALS: Polyurethane and Fiberglass
"My backup board was the 5'11" I won on at Margaret River last week. It's a bit smaller and cleaner today and I opted for my 5'9" which did the trick. I'm really fortunate to be working with someone like Matt [Biolos] and he always makes me great boards." - Carissa Moore
"That's a Sub-Scorcher II that I made for big mushy waves. We took her multiple contest winning Sub-Scorcher II 5'8" x 18.63" Huntington Beach grovel board and I stretched it out a bit as well as pulled in the tail. The idea was to lessen the surface area in the nose and tail to handle the speed and push of bigger waves, but also retain the low rocker glider board for bigger soft waves. It seemed to do the trick." - Matt 'Mayhem' Biolos
Biolos's success was doubled up once again today as Rip Curl Women's Pro Bells Beach runner-up was Tyler Wright - also riding a Mayhem Sub-Driver board with a special Tyler 'twist'.
"So proud of both these two. Fantastic surfing and incredible display of sportsmanship on both sides. Double class acts @rissmore10 @tylerwright thanks for an amazing show. Honored to work with you both." - Matt 'Mayhem' Biolos (via instagram: mayhemb3_mattbiolos )
