Boardmasters Welcomes Best Surfing Back to Cornwall
Nicolas Leroy
It's becoming somewhat of a tradition and one that surfers are loving more and more every year! Boardmasters, the iconic surf and music festival held in Cornwall since the 80s, returns in 2019 to once again launch the European Qualifying Series summer leg, here's everything you need to know!
Where?
Simply put, Fistral beach, the epicenter of everything surfing in England and the U.K. That little stretch of white sand is an iconic spot in Southwest England's Cornwall region, that has hosted surfing events since the introduction of the sport to Great Britain.
A consistent break even in summer, Fistral has the ideal, amphitheater-like setup with surrounding cliffs at both ends and a large to non-existent beach depending on tides, that welcomes crowds in the thousands during the event. The Headland hotel on the Northern side of the hills is a landmark you're not likely to forget, especially if you head over for a delicious cream tea with a stunning sea view.
What?
The Quiksilver and Roxy Open will be Stop No. 6 on this year's European Qualifying Series and welcome the region's best surfers for a QS1,000 while the Boardmasters Longboard Pro will be the second of a three-part series of longboarding events deciding the 2019 regional titles.
Both events will feature male and female fields and offer local surfers a unique chance to gauge their level against some of Europe's finest, and on home turf.
And if the surfing wasn't enough, of course music will be an integral part of the week at Boardmasters with massive crowds and world-famous acts at Watergate, lead by Wu Tang Clan on the main stage on opening night Friday, August 9th.
When?
Tune in from August 7-11, 2019 and check out all the photos, videos and updates right here! For more information about the festival, visit boardmasters.com.
