HIC Pro Original Art Up For Auction
WSL
Here's your chance to own a bit of WSL history while helping to protect Hawaii's beaches at the same time. HIC, along with Artist Danielle Zirk, have donated the original artwork commissioned for the HIC Pro poster to the Surfrider Foundation's Oahu Chapter, to be auctioned off online as part of their annual John Kelly Awards fundraiser.
The John Kelly Awards honors leaders in environmental protection and pays tribute to the memory of legendary community organizer and activist, John Kelly, one of Hawaii's early environmentalists and founder of Save our Surf. HIC is this year's recipient of the John Kelly Award for Environmentally Responsible Hawaii Company. The annual fundraiser helps support programs focused on preserving water quality, the public's right to access beaches, preventing plastic pollution, and ushering in a sustainable lifestyle for our island community.
The original artwork titled "Sunset Beach Diptych" includes two 40"x30" acrylic on canvas paintings by North Shore artist/muralist Danielle Zirk, and features an overview of the famed Sunset Beach lineup, along with a beautiful lei-draped wahine with her hair blowing in the island trades. Originally from the East Coast, Danielle first moved to Kailua-Kona on Hawaii's Big Island to pursue her passions for surfing and art. She has since re-located to Oahu's North Shore, where she finds ample inspiration for both her painting and wave riding. Her artwork is a visual journal of her travels, discoveries, and understandings.
For six years HIC, WSL and the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing have partnered with the Surfrider Foundation for the HIC Pro Beach Cleanup, tackling the rubbish along the North Shore beaches. This year's cleanup takes place Saturday, November 3rd, at the James Campbell National Wildlife Refuge on Oahu's North East shore, from 9:30 am to 12:30 am.
