Brasil se tomó la Isla Alacrán tras espectacular triunfo de Jeronimo Vargas

La delegación más importante y numerosa del Maui And Sons Arica Pro Tour, (25 corredores), apenas Jeronimo Vargas salió del agua, lo llevó en andas hacia el escenario apostado en la Isla Alacrán.
Ante una emoción casi hasta las lágrimas del corredor de Barra da Tijuca (localidad en Río de Janeiro), apenas podía esbozar palabras para explicar como logró desaparecer por algunos segundos al interior de un potente tubo en El Gringo.
Dicha maniobra, le otorgó una nota 10, calificación perfecta, pese a la insistente performance de Jacob Willcox, que como se diría en otros deportes, le respiró en la nuca durante casi toda la manga.
De hecho, el australiano estuvo durante varios minutos en una batalla mano a mano, tubo a tubo, ante un Gringo que no paraba de tirar olas. Luego de la nota 10 del brasileño, Willcox lo siguió con un tubo casi perfecto, alcanzando una nota de 9.5, quedando medio punto abajo del carioca.
Finalmente, el marcador quedó 17,50 para Vargas versus 17,17 para Willcox, un fallo milimétrico, que demuestra lo parejo que finalizó el duelo, y explica un poco la tremenda celebración que realizaron los brasileño tras el dictamen final de los jueces de la World Surf League.
Luego de que hicieron bajar a la torcida que logró "colarse" para subir al escenario, le pidieron unas palabras al brasileño para el público, a lo que Jeronimo Vargas respondió: chi, chi chi, le, le le, provocando que todo el público le siguiera el grito.
"Estoy muy contento por haber ganado, El Gringo es la mejor ola y la más peligrosa del mundo, ganar acá es realmente muy meritorio", señalaba Vargas.
Ante la consulta por la efusiva celebración de los brasileños, Jeronimo contó "siempre viajamos y alojamos juntos, nuestro equipo no tiene todas las condiciones que se requieren para una competencia profesional, por tanto este título se celebra mucho más", explicó Vargas.
