Sul-africano larga na frente no WSL Qualifying Series 2018

O sul-africano Matthew McGillivray venceu o QS 3000 Seat Pro Netanya em Israel e lidera o primeiro ranking do WSL Qualifying Series 2018. O destaque do evento vinha sendo o ex-top da elite, Miguel Pupo, que ficou nas quartas de final da etapa israelense que no ano passado foi conquistada por outro brasileiro, Peterson Crisanto. Com o título, o sul-africano largou na frente na corrida por vagas para o CT, com o francês Charly Martin em segundo lugar e Pupo em quinto no ranking das duas provas encerradas no fim de semana. A outra foi o QS 1000 Carve Pro em Sydney, vencido pelo australiano Shane Campbell.
Além dessas, outras duas também foram iniciadas na semana passada, o QS 1000 Sunset Pro no Havaí e o QS 1500 Florida Pro nos Estados Unidos, onde o peruano Lucca Mesinas se classificou para as semifinais na segunda-feira. Seu adversário será o norte-americano Jake Marshall. Este evento está sendo disputado junto com o primeiro QS 6000 feminino do ano e a brasileira Silvana Lima também passou sua bateria, avançando para enfrentar Bronte Macaulay na terceira quarta de final. Na segunda-feira, Silvana derrotou outra australiana, Philippa Anderson, nas ondas de Sebastian Inlet, na Flórida.
Nos Estados Unidos, as oito classificadas para as quartas de final vão brigar pela liderança no primeiro ranking do WSL Qualifying Series, que ficará com a vencedora do QS 6000 Ron Jon Florida Pro. Já o campeão do QS 1500 Florida Pro vai tirar a quinta posição de Miguel Pupo e dos outros três surfistas que perderam nas quartas de final do QS 3000 Seat Pro Netanya em Israel. No momento, o peruano Lucca Mesinas ocupa a 14.a posição no ranking e se passar para a final já salta para o décimo lugar, fechando a lista dos dez que se classificam para o CT.
