The Education of Ethan Ewing
Brad Drew
It probably took much longer that he would have hoped -- nine Tour stops in total -- but today at the Quiksilver Pro France, Championship Tour rookie Ethan Ewing finally captured the first Round One heat victory of his burgeoning career. The young Aussie has struggled to find the kind of form that lead to a Junior World Championship title in Kiama, NSW, back in January. But things are looking up for the kid from South Stradbroke Island, a place with waves not completely dissimilar to Hossegor.
After six consecutive Round Two exits to kick off his inaugural pro campaign, he's now guaranteed himself his third equal-13th result running, which should improve his No. 35 ranking and help his confidence heading into the final two events of the season. For Ethan Ewing, at least for now, the old adage holds true: good things come to those who wait.
