Pauline Ado hasn't had an easy year on the women's Championship Tour (CT). After spending two seasons back on the Qualifying Series (QS), the French surfer scratched her way to the elite tour again in 2017 in an impressive show of grit and skill. But so far this season, she hadn't won a single heat -- that is, until today. In Round Two at the Vans US Open of Surfing, not only did Ado win her heat, but she took down California native and former event champion, Lakey Peterson. It was massive upset for the contest, and a tough pill to swallow for Peterson, who not only has the power and progressive skills to tear Huntington's beach break apart, but also could use a huge result to get back toward the top of the Jeep Leaderboard. Going into the US Open, she was sitting at World No. 7, and more than 13,000 points behind Jeep Leader Tyler Wright. Now, the pressure will be on her for the last leg of the year.
