It's been a busy week for Yago Dora, the Brazilian wildcard who is currently No. 3 on the Qualifying Series. After winning the trials of the Oi Rio Pro the 20-year-old goofyfooter brought his explosive brand of surfing to the bright lights of the Championship Tour. The goal of every wildcard, of course, is just to send a message. Often times that can be done with a solid heat win or two. Yago won four massive heats, taking out Kolohe Andino, John John Florence, Gabriel Medina and Mick Fanning.
Without question, the highlight of his run came during his Round Five heat with Medina, which went down to the wire, and had the huge Brazilian crowd on their feet cheering.
