It hasn't been the greatest of starts for Gabriel Medina in 2017. After his solid 3rd place finish at Snapper he's suffered two early round losses in a row at Margaret River and Bells. Then he suffered a narrow Round One defeat to Nat Young in Round One, forcing him to face his old friend and rival in Round Two, wildcard Jesse Mendes. Both surfers are electric in the type of conditions that were on tap Wednesday morning in Saquarema, but for the first time in a while we got a glimpse of the Medina Magic. Gabe looked very solid in the challenging conditions, and rolled into the next round.
