Filipe Toledo had a tough batch of rookies to deal with during his opening round heat of the Oi Rio Pro. Both Ethan Ewing and Frederico Morais surf solid in beachbreak conditions, as their 2016 Qualifying Series dominance would suggest. But then again, there's no more dangerous beachbreak surfer on Tour than Toledo, because even if the runways are short and the wind crossed, Toledo will be able to launch his light aircraft into the sky. Not surprisingly, he used some of his aerial superiority to earn himself a solid win.
