Knowing he needed a solid back-up ride in Semifinal Two at the Nazaré Challenge, eventual heat winner Jamie Mitchell stroked into what looked like an average righthander. But, as contestants throughout the event learned (the hard way), even a medium-sized wave at Nazaré carries tremendous speed and power. Banking mid-face, Mitchell looked to finish his ride across a foamy end section only to get hammered by an unexpected, dumping one that followed. A heavy price to pay for just trying to complete his ride.
