Marc Lacomare may have snuck through the early rounds of the Hawaiian Pro as a dark horse, but by the time his Semifinal heat rolled around, everyone knew that he was the guy to beat. The French QS surfer had placed first in every one of his heats since Round One, and he had no intention of slowing down in the Semis. Although he finished behind John John Florence, his solid 9.77 on this wave helped earned him a spot in the QS10000 Final, where he finished 3rd. As a result he jumped thirty one spots up the QS ladder, to No. 22.
