Jordy Smith was in a do-or-die situation heading into his Semifinal heat with Conner Coffin. The South African needed to win the MEO Rip Curl Pro in order to push the Title race to Hawaii. Jordy started strong with a thick tube to put the pressure on the rookie. But Conner had other plans. The Californian bettered Smith's barrel later in the heat with a massive 9-point ride. Despite a solid effort from Smith, his pair of sevens weren't enough to overtake Coffin. The rookie's Semifinal win solidified Florence's World Title dreams in Portugal. Smith, meanwhile, moved to No. 3 on the Jeep Leaderboard heading into the final event in Hawaii.
