Being the last athlete to arrive, Kelly Slater didn't even have a warm-up session at Teahupo'o before he paddled out for Round One. Not surprisingly, he wiped out on his first ride. Tahitian local Michel Bourez gave Kelly all he could handle, including a little priority drama. But true to his old form, Slater fought his way back, threading his way through a few barrels and earning a solid Round One victory.
