An elite field of Australian and international junior surfers will converge on the wave-rich Fleurieu Peninsula this Saturday March 19 for event five of seven qualifying Subway® Surf Series Pro Junior events, sanctioned by the World Surf League (WSL).
A list of big names is set to contest the Pro Junior including West Beach local Harrison Green, Amy Gore from Christies Beach and World Surf League (WSL) Junior Australasia ratings leaders Ethan Ewing and Lucy Callister.
Ewing will look to post three wins in a row in the series while Callister sits just above the talented Macy Callaghan on the ratings.
Surfers from both Australia and New Zealand will compete in the event with entries from 37 males and 12 females.
The Bay at Middleton will be the most likely venue for the event, a booming 6ft of swell predicted with light onshore winds and sunshine for the Saturday, according to Surfing South Australia CEOCraig Potgieter.
"This is the second year South Australia has hosted the Subway(R) Surf Series and 2016 brings even more excitement with the Pro Junior, which will see the very best junior talent converge on our region," Potgieter said.
SUBWAY Marketing Manager Lara Corbiere was delighted to continue to support junior surfing in its new-look competition.
"Subway is committed to healthy active living and our aim for the Subway® Surf Series is to help fuel junior surfers to go achieve their dreams. Our association with the WSL will do just that and we can't wait to see the amazing talent from the groms," Corbiere said.
The WSL sanctioned Subway® Pro Junior events, which includes 18 and under men's and women's divisions, form part of the 2016 WSL Australasian Junior Qualifying Series (JQS), providing the winning athletes with an opportunity to win a coveted world title, at the WSL World Junior Championships in early 2017.
