After waiting patiently for the right wave to come along, Dusty Payne (HAW) found a solid righthander to work with for a 9.67 -- and the heat lead.

Reigning World Champ Gabriel Medina (BRA) found a 9.50 in the final minute of his heat to earn the direct advance to Round 3.
