About Julian Wilson

Julian Wilson has been one of the most highly regarded talents on the Championship Tour ever since his 2011 arrival and will now take this phenomenal ability to the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games to represent team Australia, known as the Irukandjis.

The Australian heartthrob gained fame years before joining the elite competitive ranks. He was a high-flying star in Quiksilver’s acclaimed video, 'Young Guns III'. The release highlighted his electric blend of aerial maneuvers and razor-sharp moves, earning him global recognition and several industry accolades, including Surfer Mag’s Breakthrough Performer award.

During his freshman season on tour he nabbed a third at Trestles and made the Finals in France, and his World No. 9 finish easily earned him the Rookie of the Year honor. After that, a future World Title seemed inevitable for the confident kid from the Sunshine Coast, but for reasons pundits are still finding hard to pin down, Wilson has languished in the back half of the Top 10 for the bulk of his career. Nevertheless, he has five Championship Tour victories to his name, including a Pipe Masters victory over Gabriel Medina in 2014 (when he also won the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing) and two big wins on the Gold Coast and in France in 2018.

With these victories and his wife and new baby by his side, Wilson battled his way into a World Title race in 2018, finishing No. 2 on the Jeep Leaderboard recording his best result. Wilson’s 2019 season was a disappointment however and he fell down the rankings. Eventually, it took a good result at Pipeline to secure both a top 10 result on the Jeep Leaderboard and qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games.
