Such is the level of Wilson’s talent in all types of conditions that he has been labeled by some surf pundits (especially in his home country of Australia) as the “best surfer on Tour to never win a World Title.” It’s a weighty mantle to bear, but the man from the Sunshine Coast has the composure to carry it.

After a slow start to his 2017 campaign, Wilson rode a mid-season hot streak through the dream leg – Fiji, South Africa and Tahiti – and skyrocketed up the rankings. He’s cooled off somewhat since his win in at the Billabong Tahiti Pro, but remains within touching distance of Title-hunt leaders.
