PALM BEACH, Florida/USA (Thursday, October 26, 2017) - Palm Beach County commissioners have unanimously approved zoning for the building of a WSL Facility powered by Kelly Slater Wave Company (KSWC) technology in West Palm Beach. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2018.
"Today was another step forward in the exciting future for the WSL as well as the sport and culture of surfing," Dave Prodan, WSL spokesperson, said. "The local leaders have heard our vision for the future of the sport and the important role that Palm Beach County can and will play. We'll have more details to share as we move forward, but in the meantime, we are grateful for the support from community and local business leaders and elected officials."
The WSL and KSWC successfully completed a test event at their facility in Central California in September where a number of elite Championship Tour (CT) surfers challenged the technology in a competitive environment. The results were very promising.
The men's and women's WSL Title Races will be decided at the final events of the season: the Maui Women's Pro starting November 25 and the Billabong Pipe Masters starting December 8, 2017.
