The WSL has added the Women’s XXL Biggest Wave category to the Big Wave Awards and have scoured the archives to determine the world record for the biggest wave successfully ridden by a female surfer to this point in history.

On October 1, 2018 Maya Gabeira was awarded this distinction and has made history as the first Women's XXL Biggest Wave World Record holder, as recognized in partnership with Guinness World Records as a special designation, Largest Wave Surfed (Unlimited) - Female.
